Gracie Girl

A friend told me about this song from Ben Folds called Gracie Girl. (if you go to the bottom, you can listen to part of it) It is just so cute. Except the first lines. They made my heart stop and I started crying. Here are the lyrics:

You can't fool me, I saw you when you came out
You got your momma's taste but you got my mouth
And you will always have a part of me
Nobody else is ever going to see
Gracie girl

With your cards to your chest walking on your toes
What you got in the box only Gracie knows
And I would never try to make you be
Anything you didn't really want to be
Gracie girl

Life flies by in seconds
You're not a baby Gracie, you're my friend
You'll be a lady soon but until then
You gotta do what I say

You nodded off in my arms watching TV
I won't move you an inch even thought my arm's asleep

One day you're gonna want to go
I hope we taught you everything you need to know
Gracie girl

And there will always be a part of me
Nobody else is ever gonna see but you and me
My little girl
My Gracie girl

I love, love love it! Except that first part, which makes me sad. I can never tell her that I saw her when she came out. She doesn't look like me or her Dad. Sometimes I forget that. She is just our daughter. We talk about her adoption all the time, it is a common subject here. But she isn't really old enough to ask the hard questions, yet. What am I going to tell her when she asks why her birth mother left outside a police station? I tell myself that I am adopted,I never met my birth mother and I turned out fine. So she will too, right? right? I can only hope.

What a great song... Gracie will be fine... but I know what you mean, I don't relish the day Eva really grasps her whole story... but, I just plan on being honest and telling her that, sadly, abandonment is the only "adoption" plan her birth family could make for her and no matter the reason they couldn't raise her, they loved and cared enough about her to ensure her being found quickly and brought into a safe place.
But, it still sucks.

I'm with Kristin on that one. Your Gracie will do fine!

Of course she'll be fine. She has a family who loves her. I love Ben Folds! What a cool song! I am fuming right now over something that was posted on Waiting for Sophie. It has since been removed, but here's the link. http://www.theperfectworld.us/thread.php?postNum=2423&id=714
Check out "calgals" views on adoption. I am going to e-mail her, but I am waiting until I cool down. Right now it would not be pretty.

We found a room near Fishermans Wharf on priceline for a very sweet deal....any recommendations for good seafood??? (not too touristy?, kid friendly)? We'll be there Friday.

She'll turn out better than fine. She has a fabulous, compassionate, fun and loving Mom. What more could a kid need? :)
