Moms gone wild

Ok, maybe that is being a little over dramatic, but I just liked writing it. Last year I went on a "Mom's weekend away" with 3 of my Mommy friends. It was really the first time I had gone away by myself. I was very excited. What exciting location did we pick, you ask? San Jose ,Ca. About 45 minutes from home and not the most exciting place in the world. (No offense to my south bay friends)But I was still excited. I was going to sleep in a hotel and lay out by the pool and eat out every meal and shop with my friends. Fun times. And they were. Until nightfall. Now, I should explain that I have never been into the bar scene. (OK, so I met Scott 15 years ago in a bar in Mexico on Spring break, but that's beside the point). I knew I wasn't going to fit in when we all got dressed to go out. I was way under dressed. First of all, I don't own a Halter top and even if I did, I wouldn't wear it. I also do not wear these kind of shoes, unless I am going to a wedding. So we go out to a very nice dinner and hang out and people watch. At this point, I am pretty much ready for bed. But no! We must go out to the Bar in San Jose that everyone whose anyone needs to be seen at. (Who is going to see me??). So I go. And that is where it gets weired. I guess their idea of a good time is to talk to strange men. We disagree. I just do not see the point in any of this. I am married. I do not need more friends, at least not single men friends. And I really do not care to make small talk with said strange men when I will never see them again. And I certainly do not need to dance with them. Am I just boring? Old? (I was the youngest one there!) prudish? So the reason I bring any of this up at all is because it is time for the annual "mom's weekend" and I am not sure if I should go...I guess I could go and skip that part...I just don't know...

I understand completely. The dinners out, hanging by the pool and shopping all sound like heaven to me. Instead of hanging out at a bar, I would much prefer to catch up on my sleep!

Oh Lisa~
I have been in a very similar predicament....I decided it just wasn't for me. I love hotels, pools, shops and female bonding but...I am not trying to pretend I am not married with a family.

My good times solution ...I joined a ladies only book club. Hey, sometimes we go on field trips, and we always drink wine...

Wild, I know! I'm a real risk taker.

The bar scene? Meh. Not so into it.

I think you should go but schedule an in-room massage for after dinner... no one could fault you for retiring early for a special spa treatment!

Then, relaxed, you could hog all the pillows and fall asleep to reality TV!!

The concept of a moms weekend away sounds great..so great that I want to figure out a way to get a group of bloggers together to have one! Let's create one:)

I would love to get out and away for the weekend..shopping, spa...(and sorry, Lisa!) but I like dressing up (well not halter tops.. but I kind of liked the bluefly heels you showcased, although I wouldn't pay that kind of money) and going out to eat and having great wine with a group of women. (And if we want to flirt and charm cute waiters so be it...hehehe..harmless)

The part I didn't agree with is the bar/pickup scene. That didn't make sense, nor is that what a getaway weekend is about for me/nor does it seem appropriate to have my husband babysit and have me do that. That's the past. You're right. We have families now. I love my family.

Ok, I LOVE Kristin's idea!!! Sounds like a great plan to me. I'm not into the bar scene at all, although I never really was. And dress up for me is my "good jeans." ;-)

You need to go on a "Mom's gone wild" night out with some different kinds of moms! The kind who order room service and avoid bars and get foot massages and sit around the pool in sensible bathing suits and shoes and laugh about how the Daddies are doing at home without us!

If anyone sets this up, be sure to invite me!

:)

i totally think you should go. but skip the bar. instead, go to a movie, read a book, watch tv or make some more no-sew blankets. or just hit the sack early and get some (i'm assuming) much needed rest.

Whatever you decide to do, just have FUN! Make it an "all about me" weekend, bar or no bar! ;-)

I just had to comment. I hope you don't mind a guy butting into this conversation. I have to say that I am blown away by the character each of you have shown in your comments. I'm serious. It's nice to see women who love their husbands and family. I wish all of my married men friends would stop and think about how much their wives and family care about them and how we need to always keep that in mind and show how much we love them as well.

I'm impressed. You all go have fun and we'll be here waiting for you with the kids fed, bathed and in bed.

I'm with you. Bar scenes aren't my idea of fun either. And I agree with Donna's suggestion. You'll have a much better time if you spend that weekend with friends who like doing what you do.

There's nothing wrong with you at all!
